Open Motion Recorder

A local-first desktop screen recorder that turns raw captures into polished presentations — cursor tracking, automatic zoom, timeline editing, styled frames and export in one focused workflow.

Open Motion Recorder captures the screen at up to 60 fps with microphone and system audio, while recording cursor telemetry — pointer position, click events and cursor shape — into a structured JSON sidecar. From that metadata, deterministic algorithms generate smooth automatic zooms around clicks and dwell moments, merging nearby interactions so the camera glides instead of jumping. The editor adds cursor smoothing and click effects, styled frames with 39 wallpapers, gradients, rounded corners and shadows, a webcam bubble, timeline editing with zoom regions, trims, speed ramps and annotations, and export to H.264 MP4 or GIF. Everything runs on-device: no cloud, no accounts, no telemetry.

An open-source adaptation

The project was developed using the open-source Recordly foundation (AGPL-3.0) and adapted into an independent Self Graphic Lab project through product identity, packaging, update-infrastructure, documentation, asset and repository work, with full upstream attribution preserved. The core capture engine is not claimed as original work; the project's contribution is the product adaptation, independent distribution and verified real-hardware testing: 2940×1912 60 fps recording, 708 cursor samples, 28 detected clicks, auto-zoom verified by frame-correlation analysis, and a polished MP4 export generated end-to-end. 1,094 automated tests pass.
